Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a technique used to help release the fascia. Fascia is a case of connective tissue that surrounds and holds the muscle tissue in place. Imagine wrapping cling film around your muscles. If the cling film is too tight the muscles cannot function properly and often pain is felt. If there is injury, the fascia may become tight or hardened. Hardening of the fascia occurs in response to physical or emotional trauma.

How is Myofascial Release used in Somatic Trauma Therapy?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is used when a client needs some support in the therapeutic process. I use this when a client seems stuck in their process of healing. For example, if the body seems frozen and the timing is right, MFR work is used to support the body with the focus to aid the body in coming out of a freeze response associated with a traumatic event. This technique is used if someone is in physical pain due to a traumatic event or emotional trauma.

What types of physical pain is it used for?
MFR is necessary for the recovery from all different types of injuries emotional or physical injuries or conditions. Some of these include whiplash, stress-related muscular tension, repetitive strain injuries, chronic pain, headaches, frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis, jaw problems, neck or back pain.
